How can we use technological tools to assist student learning and promote student success.
Sometimes when looking at how technology may be used to help our students, as educators we can become handicaped by a lack of creativity - how can these things work. So I'd like to open a discussion and invite people to share their creative insights, experiences, awareness of happenings, and foster thought provoking comments. Let's not put barriers on what could be, let's open the brainstorming session and invite all within CLA to share their thoughts. I sense many of us are ready to move forward with using some of the tools we have in our organization and that are readily available to them.
I think that technology is a great way to engage students in writing.

Shy students who have ideas but are not willing to share in class and in front of peers would love blogging as a vehicle for discussion.

Technology is good in moderation. Today's society has become too reliant on technology to do everything for us. Nothing beats the pencil and paper format to achieve student success. Technology should only be used as a secondary tool to achieve student success. The library is a tool that is now underutilised.

We need to find a way to share resources, without duplicating work done by others.

Some students are very comfortable with the computer and expressing their thoughts, but some students--especially older students-- may not be. We must be careful of what we expect from students when they may not all be starting from the same point.

I am becoming rapidly aware that our new teachers being taught at UNBC may know nothing about this because us old educator fuddy duddies have been left technologically behind. So I am already thinking what I can do about this technological deficit for the new teachers I teach!

I think the key to successful use of technology in education is choice. When creating an assignment try to build in choices for students that have varying degrees of technology. Then students will be able to get comfortable with a certain level of technology and perhaps increase their ability and confidence with it. For those students who are already comfortable with technology then they will be able to jump right into the assignment that uses more technology.
